"Doing Business"-data, provided by the World Bank, sheds light on how easy or difficult it is for a local entrepreneur to open and run a small to medium-size business when complying with relevant regulations. It measures and tracks changes in regulations affecting 11 areas in the life cycle of a business: starting a business, dealing with construction permits, getting electricity, registering property, getting credit, protecting investors, paying taxes, trading across borders, enforcing contracts, resolving insolvency, and employing workers.

The "ease of doing business"-index provides an aggregate ranking of all economies (190 economies) based on indicator sets that measure the 11 areas. A high ranking (close to 1) on the "ease of doing business"-index means the regulatory environment is more conducive to the starting and operation of a local firm.

The "distance to frontier measure" shows the distance of each economy to the "frontier". The frontier represents the highest performance observed on each of the indicators across all economies measured in Doing Business since the inclusion of the indicator. An economy's distance to the frontier is reflected on a scale from 0 to 100, with 0 representing the lowest performance and 100 the frontier.
