Share of SMEs expenditure on R&D financed by the government sector in the total business expenditure on R&D financed by the government sector. Government funded business R&D includes grants and payments for R&D, contracts for procurement, but it does not include R&D tax incentives, repayable loans, or equity investments.

SMEs are defined as enterprises with fewer than 250 employees.
